Featurette on Technology in Chindia
The special report in this week's issue of the Economist focuses on the advancing technological sophistication of China and India. Definitely, it is a topic of great interest. The world's biggest telecoms firm by market capitalization is in China, for instance--China Telecom. And, of course, India is the motherlode of outsourcing. It goes without saying that the growing technological sophistication of these countries will be a big factor shaping the global political economy going forward. If there is a fault with this report, it does not discuss at length how China's nefarious censorship regime may be a hindrance to technologies which rely on the open flow of ideas.
